Painting the Nest
Then we have this two. The first is grey with black shutters and the second is actually grey with navy shutters. Even though it is not the style of our home, you can get an idea of the coloring. The shutters could go navy or they could go black.
Now we have my favorite. I love a white house and have always wanted a "big" white house. I just think it is a classic.
Now we will be adding a portico to the front of our house, for architectural interest as well as protection from the elements. So just for decorative interest, I have added the following picture. Love the pots and plants flanking the front door.
Now it is your turn. Please give me any comments on any of the houses so I can work to finalizing our color choices. Thanks in advance for your help.

I want to be a Mary....
My blog friend Kat, over at JustABeachKat posted "For now just call me Martha" . Her post really got me to thinking and this book has just been plastered on my heart since reading her post. Today, I stopped in at the Bible Book Store and picked up a copy. Fortunately, my edition includes a 12-week companion Bible study. Hopefully when I finish studying this book, and finish the Bible study, I will be more of a Mary instead of a Martha. (For more information on Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, check out the info provided by Barnes and Noble: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9781594150098&itm=2 )
To go along with this study, I really feel that my prayer life is lacking. I just don't have the knack for praying that so many people have and I also can't pray aloud. Never have and doubt I ever will. My prayer is that I am never asked to lead a prayer in public. However, I am going to work on this area of my life as well. Elizabeth George is one of my favorite Christian Womens' authors. I love all of her books and was hooked after reading A Woman After God's Own Heart. As I was glancing along the book shelves for my Mary/Martha book, I stumbled over some Elizabeth George books I have yet to read. One really jumped out at me. It is entitled A Woman's Call to Prayer; Making Your Desire to Pray a Reality.
I really think these 2 books are going to enrich my life and my daily walk with God.

Southern Splendor on a Sunday
While at COSTCO the other day I came across 2 books that pointed out decadently different the south is. The first was a book called Southern Cakes. It is by Nancie McDermott who is a cooking teacher and lives here in the south, here in NC actually. According to the website for the book SOUTHERN CAKES: Sweet and Irresistible Recipes for Everyday Celebrations, you should "Taste the chocolatey goodness of Mississippi Mud or marvel at the extravagant elegance of the Lady Baltimore and there will be no doubt that Southerners know how to bake a cake. Here are 65 recipes for some of the most delicious ever. Jam cakes and jelly rolls; humble pear bread and peanut cake; whole chapters on both chocolate and coconut cakes—each moist and delicious forkful represents the spirit of the South. A Baking 101 section offers the cake basics, some finishing touches (that means frosting and lots of it!), and the how-to's of storing each lovely concoction so that the last slice tastes as fresh and delightful as the first". And we southern belles love to bake.
Now of course, Southerners love to enteretain as well. And many cannot entertain without a traditional Mint Julep, or Milk Punch, or Plantation Punch. That leads me to my second book:
Southern Cocktails: Dixie Drinks, Party Potions & Classic Libations by Denise Gee. The publisher offers us this little tidbit on what will be a classic book for Southern entertainers:
'"Don't mind if I do . . . " Welcome to one of the South's most cherished traditions the cocktail hour. This charming volume overflows with Southern spirit with classics like the Mint Julep and the Hurricane to new concoctions like the Blueberry Martini and the Peach Mojito, each drink is as relaxing as a riverboat ride down the Mississippi. A checklist of Bar Necessities ensures that there will be more than Southern Comfort in the cupboard when company calls, and recipes like Devilish Eggs or Sweet and Sassy Pecans will keep hunger at bay until dinner. Raise a toast to old-time Southern hospitality.'
So whether or not your partake of a Dixie Drink, come join me on my wonderful dock jetting into the marsh during the sunset and have a big ole hunk of Mississippi Mud Cake. And don't worry, I always have a cold glass of sweet tea or lemonade to quench your thirst.

Who Knew?????
Water Displacement #40. The product began from a search for a rust preventive solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a "water displacement" compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40.The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts. Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you.
When you read the "shower door" part, try it. It's the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. It's a miracle! Then try it on your stovetop... Voila! It's now shinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.
P. S. The basic ingredient is FISH OIL.

Thursday Ramblings
One of the things I like about Costco is people watching. And observing who buys what! Call it be nosy, I call it being observant. If it doesn't rain this evening, I again have to be the official scorekeeper for our co-rec softball league and tonight should be more enjoyable. One of the teams called last night and asked my DH to play. I love watching him play softball. When we first started dating, almost all of our dates were to the ballpark to watch him play softball.
And since I don't really have anything more to talk about today, I will leave you with this wonderful quote from Ben Franklin.....
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. ~Benjamin Franklin
Have a great day!

Yeah....It's a Giveaway
Jill at Who Could Ask for Anything More is having a contest.
Thanks Kat for letting me know about this giveaway.
Something to think about....
He gave me Life, so that I may enjoy all things.
New National Holiday
The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said,"Your Honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kppur and Hanukkah.....yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays."
The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said "Obviously your client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate, his own atheists’ holiday!"
The lawyer pompously said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday for atheists. Just when might that holiday be, your Honor?" The judge said, "Well it comes every year on exactly the samedate.....April 1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as April Fool's Day, consider that Psalm 14:1, and Psalm 53 states, "The fool says in his heart, there is no God" Thus, in my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture he is a fool, thus April 1st is his holiday!"
Pray that some day our courts will be full of these kinds of judges... maybe then we can put God back where He belongs... in everything we do.....
Way to go, Judge!

Common language
Last night I was at a co-rec softball game and right next to the private softball fields (owned by a local kids' sports organization) is a public park. The park stays very busy, especially the basketball courts which are closest to the softball field. Now this co-rec league is made up of 8 teams with 3 of them being church teams. And there are always children around. The language that was coming from the basketball courts was atrocious. And we are not talking conversations here but shouting at each other while they played basketball.
Even though I dislike the simple curse words, I can not stand the use of GD or the f-bomb. And it seems more and more people let that bomb drop.
I just wish people would stop and think what comes out of their mouths before they say it and realize how much more intelligent they sounds when they have a bigger and better vocabulary than just plain old common language.
Getting off my soapbox now.
Today the girls have gone to Wet-n-Wild Emerald Point to round off all their hard work this week with the mission work and service projects. It is a quite overcast here so I hope they are still having a great time! Hopefully the sun is shining on all of these hardworking young adults.

Just a reminder...
Summer Advice
Use Bounce Fabric Softener Sheets...just wipe on & go..Great for Babies
Bob, a fisherman, takes one vitamin B-1 tablet a day April through October. He said it works. He was right. Hasn't had a mosquito bite in 33 years. Try it. Every one he has talked into trying it works on them. Vitimin B-1( Thiamine Hydrochloride 100 mg.)
If you eat bananas, the mosquitos like you, - something about the banana oil as your body processes it. Stop eating bananas for the summer and the mosquitos will be much less interested.
This is going to floor you, but one of the best insect repellents someone found (who is in the woods every day), is Vick's Vaporub.
Plant marigolds around the yard, the flowers give off a smell that bugs do not like, so plant some in that garden also to help ward off bugs without using insecticides.
"Tough guy" Marines who spend a great deal of time "camping out" say that the very best mosquito repellant you can use is AvonSkin-So-Soft bath oil mixed about half and half with alcohol.
If none of these work for you......Get a FROG!!
JAPANESE BEETLES (from Old Fashioned Living)
The Japanese Beetles are in full swing here, so Iwanted to repeat this excellent tip from Mary on how she handles these nasty pests!
I used the cheapest lemon dishwashing liquid I could find, and poured it along with 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol,(see below) into the container of my hose-end sprayer and sprayed it on my garden, berry plants, and appletrees. Imagine my surprise the next day when I went out and only saw one beetle on the area I had sprayed! On the other side of my fence I had not sprayed, and found multitudes of them! I am so happy I found a safe, effective (and cheap!) way to finally take care of these critters. It also cuts down on the amount the kids eat on the sly, since they need to bring it in to wash it before eating! I put the 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol in the bottom of myhose-end sprayer container, and then filled the rest up with the lemon dish soap. Mine mixes with water from the hose to make 6 gallons of spray. I noted that this spray does not seem to bother the bees, who were merrily buzzing around the garden the next day.

I need your help!
You can vote once per day through July 13. If you wouldn't mind, I'd really appreciate it. $50,000 will go a long way in helping to pay for some of the damage this school sustained after Katrina...10 ft. of water does a LOT of damage...expensive damage.
Anyway, here's the link....choose New Orleans and then vote for Mt. Carmel Academy. Thanks

July 4th
The 4th of July....time to honor America and I believe all of the Americans past and present who have made this country the home of the free and the brave. AND that includes our military. So a big salute to all of you that serve or have served....THANK YOU! For the 4th we went to see Team USA play Team Japan in baseball. It was Opening night for Team USA and in honor of the 4th, team USA's uniforms were camoflauge shirts with the Team USA logo.
From the Durham Bulls website: "Independence Day at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park was one for the record books, as USA Baseball opened their 2007 season with a 7-2 win over Japan in front of their first sellout crowd at the DBAP. If you weren't one of the 10,063 people at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on July 4th, check out the game highlights and slideshow in the Flash Box on the Durhambulls.com homepage.
The fireworks were spectacular as music centered on the USA and America was played in the background. All in all....a great night. This was of course prefaced with grilled hamburgers and hotdogs!!
