A very classy post (from someone else) and then a little fun

From the Pink Owl this morning:
"Congratulations to President Obama and VP Biden! You were not my choice,
but I fully support you in your future job as MY President. Your acceptance
speech gave me hope and seeing you and the Bidens on stage together moved me to
tears. The greatness of America is that in patriotic times like these I'm
hopeful that we can join together and be the GREAT nation that we are. Together.
Hopeful. I sincerely hope that you make me regret NOT voting for you. God bless
you both and God bless AMERICA! "

Personally, I can't be this gracious yet. I am truly heartbroken over the election and unfortunately my gut says our country is in for it, in many ways. As soon as they announced the outcome, I called my mom, as we have both been "Praying the Vote", and told her now we have to change our prayers that American can withstand the next 4 years. But the election is over and my candidate obviously didn't win, and now it is time to support our new president-elect. Now I did not watch his acceptance speech so the words above are definitely not mine, but the Pink Owl's. Someone much more gracious than I at this point. But her sentiment, I do feel and will accept prior to the Oath of Office on 1/20/2009. Please, America, come aboard, cross aisles and work together. (By the way, my NC elections I feel worse about than the presidency.)

So now for some fun:

Life of a Southern Belle tagged me for the My Favorites tag. One of hers, I am pretty much going to copy if she doesn't mind. I'm supposed to list a few of my favorite things in specific categories...Here goes...

Favorite Store: Probably Swoozies. I love all of the party items and everything that can be monogrammed. Total Prepdom!

Favorite City: There's no contest...Beaufort, NC is tops on my list. Although I don't think it is even a city. More commonly known as Beufort-by-the-Sea. Quaint old waterfront town, spectacular shops, live music on the weekends, excellent food, and the most gorgeous collection of boats docking at any time.

Favorite Sweet: probably homemade ice cream - preferably peach.

Favorite Music: I listen to a wide range of music...country, top 40, hiphop, and even rap (gotta know what the kidlets are listening to). But thanks to my parents, I grew up listening mostly to what is commonly called NC/SC beach music. Same as Belle. Love her quote: "absolutely favorite music, though, is Beach Music (clarification...the Beach Boys are NOT Beach Music). If you're not from around here, you might not know what I'm talking about." You can listen to it live on 94.9 The Surf.

"The Catalinas, The Drifters, The Embers, General Johnson and the Chairmen of the Board and many others played beach music as young people danced the summer nights away in the pavilion in Myrtle Beach and other places all along the coast. Beach Music is the official popular music and Shagging is the official state dance of South Carolina (edited to add that there is plenty of it in NC too). There is NO better fun in this world! Click here for the 100 Greatest Beach Music Songs. (Yes, I know that in other countries the word "shag" means something entirely different). In fact, my husband and I PLAN to take shagging lessons starting in the new year.

But if you know anything about me, you know there is one other form of music that is a favorite. It is my own beach music...that in which we Parrotheads listen to. That which you can listen live to on Radio Margaritaville. The music of the one and only...Jimmy Buffett!

enough about music...let's move on...

Favorite TV Show: At the moment...Dancing with the Stars

Favorite Movie: gosh, there are so many, but probably A Time to Kill starring my boyfriend, Matthew McConaughey. The accent, the attire, everything...just plain southern and a very good storyline to boot. Thank you Mr. Grisham for that.

Favorite Workout: What workout?? I know, I need to be on one!

Favorite Drink: Diet Pepsi

Favorite Coffee: Don't drink coffee...but I will take a hot chocolate or an apple cider from Starbucks.

I'm not going to tag anyone because I actually think most of my blog readers have done this one BUT if you haven't please feel free to do this fun little tag, and let me know you did it so I can come read.

And I was tagged again...this time by Preppy Southern Princess with the Bookworm Tag.

Even though I have been tagged once for this, I do have a different book right beside me at the moment.
Here are the rules:Pass it on to five other bloggers, and tell them to open the nearest book to page 56. Write out the fifth sentence on that page, and also the next two to five sentences...The CLOSEST BOOK, NOT YOUR FAVORITE, OR MOST INTELLECTUAL!!
I so happen to have "Song of Solomon: God's best for love, marriage, sex and romance" Study guide. This is a class DH and I took in church and is now being used by our youth department in the high school Sunday School classes as they study about the exact same thing. So on to page 56...
Actually this is sentences 4-7:
"Husbands, you can be romantic. God desires you to be romantic, and it's up
to you to take the lead in romance in your marriage. Early on it was your
instinct to be romantic. Later, it must become a discipline." ~ Tommy Nelson (author of the book, program, and study guide)
As stated in the rules, I am supposed to pass this on to 5 people. Since I have already done this, I am once again leaving it open to whomever would like to take on the Bookworm Award.
Have a Blessed Day!

I am also very frustrated over the "state" of things here in our state. What angers me the most about the Democractic campaigning this past term was the "vote Obama then vote straight party ticket" campaigning and push.

There are bad apples on BOTH sides of the equation and removing a qualified incumbent from office, or voting for positions and candidates which one knows nothing about is really, really fiscally and legislatively irresponsible.

But I guess we're the minority in responsible thinking, huh?

I am so with you on this one...

However, you should have seen the comments on my blog after my one political post. I feel like Natalie Maines, lol.

The comments were so venemous I had to just delete the entire thing, since for some reason I can't delete the comments.

Visiting your blog via Leah's. Love the upbeat music! It's making me grin.

I, too, was brokenhearted, but time moves on and I recognize the need to pray for the President-elect for I certainly would never want to behave toward him the way so many behaved toward his predecessor.

Fun blog!
