Another Terrific Tuesday

terrific_sm3d

First off this morning, the cable man finally shows up and NOW we can see the cable TV downstairs...didn't matter much to me, because my bedroom TV was clear as a bell.  But now DH can be happy.  DD left her bathing suit at the hotel when she went to Virginia Beach a few weekends ago.  My DM and DD remembered they had forgotten this item in the bathroom and went back to the hotel to get it.  It was gone.  Typical, the hotel said it was probably gone for good but took DD's info anyway.  Yesterday, we received a card in our mailbox addressed to DD that a package delivery was attempted and it was COD so I could come to the post office and retrieve said package.  My immediate thought was, "WHAT HAS MY CHILD ORDERED ONLINE????"  Anyway, a call from DH to the post office this morning solved the problem.  The package was from the hotel.  Now we have DD's swimsuit back.  AND THEN, my floor man came.  We are putting in hardwoods throughout the majority or our downstairs, our upstairs hall, and having the stairs refinished.  Unfortunately our home was built in 81 when builders cut lots of corners and one of them was particle board subfloors if not under hardwoods.  You see, I have learned that you must have 3/4 plywood subfloor for true hardwood floors.  Well DH ripped out the old carpet everywhere, and all they nasty compressed particle board that basically crumbled to the touch and we have installed our nice, new regulation plywood.  Floor man was very happy with the work we did....said we did an excellent job...and he should be here in 2 weeks or less to start our install.  He is going to install the floors, put a few color finishes down so we can see them on the floor.  We are going to paint. and then he will come back, sand off the color and finish our floors onsite.  I can't wait.  Now if my bookcases would hurry up and be built and that nice government rebate check will arrive so my furniture can be recovered, I will be a very happy woman.  All in all, a good day thus far!

So now for a little fun:

I stole this from Pink, Green, and Southern

Tip of the Day:

This information may be something to remember, as this season will soon be here again...

It might be wise to carry a penny in your pocket while working in the yard......... BEE STINGS !

A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee and hornet while working in the garden. My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I went to my regular doctor. The arm was Infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me," The next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes."

That night, my niece was stung by two bees. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So, I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a bite.  We decided that she just wasn't allergic to the sting.

Soon, I was gardening outside. I got stung again, twice by a hornet on my left hand. I thought, here I go again to the doctor for another antibiotic. I promptly got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the string out of the bite immediately.

In the meantime the hornets were attacking, and my friend was stung on the thumb. Again the penny. The next morning I could only see the spot where the hornet had stung me. No redness, no swelling.  My friend's sting was the same; couldn't even tell where she had been stung. She got stung again a few days later upon her back---cutting the grass!  And the penny worked once again.

Wanted to share this marvelous information in case you experience the same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand . The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite.  It definitely works!

(Haven't researched this tip on snopes.com, however, if you are not allergic to stings, a penny is something worthwhile to try.)

Hi Jennifer,

You will have to show photos of your finished floors. Our house was built in the late 1970's and we put hardwood on our whole first floor. It's called brazilian cherry and I love it. You will love it, it warms up your home and just looks great. Thaks for the penny info, I'm very allergic to bees.
