It took forever to pick DD2 (DSD) up from school. They were rerouting where we had to go and bussing the kids to that pick up area because they didn't want the crime scene contaminated.
Apparently a former student shot his father, then went to the school around lunch time with a rifle and a shotgun (driving a mini-van no less), pulled up, rolled the window down and just let fire at the school. One girls was shot in the shoulder, and the other student injured was hurt from flying glass after some glass was shot out. They did apprehend the suspect and the injured students are just fine. The suspect did admit to shooting his father so deputies went to the home and sure enough found his father. I think he also said something about Columbine.
DD2 was a little apprehensive going to school today but I think she is going to be just fine. We talked about it a lot last night and she also spoke to her mother.
I just don't understand what makes students/people do these sort of things.
At least on a light note, I have some rules these idiots should follow and maybe these things won't happen. (I am sure you have seen these in email but here they come again)
Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Glad she is OK. What a sad child this shooter must be. He has to be in tremendous pain to lash out like that (not that it is an excuse but I always wonder what kind of pain would drive someone there)...I am so glad he didn't kill any of the precious young people at DD2's school. God is good.
Did the father live?
Its hard to believe when you to look into those happy faces of babies that in a few years they can have such feelings that will drive them to do things like this.
In the movie Little Miss Sunshine there is a son who obviously has "issues", I expected some sort of story line like you have explained. The good news is thats not the road that the movie took.
Hopefully the son will get help as will the kids who are now worried about what will happen at school next.
