The Fight for Parkinson's Disease

For those of you that don't know, I have Parkinsons and was diagnosed at age 37. A very early age for diagnosis. But did you know, Michael J Fox was diagnosed at age 29? PD is one of those strange illnesses, unfortunately right now, a life long debilitating disease. Mine is progressing faster than expected just as his has. Yesterday, I watched the True Hollywood Story on E! about MJF and was truly amazed but saddened as what may happen in my future. To be honest, it scares me. However, after watching and crying, I also felt very validated as to what I feel now. Especially the pain. People always ask how am I doing and I don't want sympathy so I usually tell them something like, I'm hanging on. There response is always something to the effect of you sure look good. I think people in general don't know how to respond to an illness such as PD. If you get the chance, and the E! special THS is on agan, please watch. It is a very eye-opening show into what Parkinson's Disease really is. Also, check out the website www.michaeljfox.org and learn about what is going on. MJF is fighting for a cure in his lifetime, which would also mean a cure in my lifetime.

Thank you so much for sharing your feelings on this subject. "We" don't always know how to respond but it makes it easier knowing how you are really feeling. You are so loved and admired. You are an amazing and strong lady (even when YOU don't feel like it!). I can't understand what it feels like to face this day in and day out but please know you are loved and prayed for. (((hugs)))
